From 8.8 to Protected: A Detailed Radon Solution in Gorham, ME

Matt F. in Gorham, Maine had basement radon levels test at 8.8 pCi/L, above the EPA recommended action level. With two sump pits in the basement, the project required a more customized approach to ensure the system would perform properly and the basement would remain protected long term.

One sump pit was located under the stairs near the oil tank, while the second was beneath the slop sink. The mitigation system was installed near the slop sink, closer to the basement door, using the nearby electrical source for a clean and efficient setup. Because Matt was in the process of installing new sump pumps, we coordinated the timing so the sump sealing work could be completed once those upgrades were finished.

After returning to seal the sump openings, we also inspected the fan after Matt noticed the manometer reading at zero while the fan was still running. Everything was checked over and confirmed to be operating properly.

Now the home has a professionally installed radon mitigation system, sealed sump areas, and the confidence that the basement air is being properly protected.

If your home has elevated radon levels or multiple sump pits that make the job more complex, Maine Radon & Water can design the right solution for your space.

Radon Mitigation for Brent J. in Gorham, ME

Before:
Brent’s home tested at 8.4 pCi/L, well above the EPA recommended action level. Referred to us by his daughter, he knew it was time to address the issue—but like many homeowners, he needed a solution that would work within the layout of his basement.

The system needed to be installed near the bilco doors, running from an existing stub and routed to the right of the doors near the electrical panel—a tighter space where proper planning makes all the difference.

During:
We installed a sub-slab depressurization system, adding a 50-foot extension to properly route the radon line while maintaining a clean and efficient setup. Every detail—from pipe placement to fan positioning—was done with performance and long-term reliability in mind.

After:
Brent’s radon levels are now within acceptable limits, giving him and his family confidence that the air in their home is safe.

From 8.4 pCi/L to safe levels—done right the first time.
Another Maine home protected. Another family breathing easier.
